Many businesses in Singapore ship products classified as UN3077 or UN3082 but are unaware that they may qualify for an important exemption under IATA Special Provision A197. What Does Special Provision A197 Cover?
Special Provision A197 applies only to:
- UN3077 – Environmentally Hazardous Substance, Solid, N.O.S.
- UN3082 – Environmentally Hazardous Substance, Liquid, N.O.S.
To qualify, each single package or inner packaging must not exceed:
- 5 kg for solids
- 5 litres for liquids
The packaging must still meet the applicable general packaging requirements of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
What Are the Benefits?
Where A197 applies, shipments are generally exempt from many of the normal dangerous goods requirements, including the need for a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods (DGD) and standard dangerous goods marking and labelling requirements. However, the exemption only applies when all conditions of the special provision are met.
